Why so many carers miss out

Carer benefits are some of the most under-claimed entitlements in any welfare system — and it's rarely because carers don't need the help. It's because the systems themselves are hard to navigate. Support is usually split across several different agencies and programs, each with its own rules, forms and technical eligibility language. Almost none of it is automatic — you have to know a program exists, know you might qualify, and actively apply.

Here's the assumption that trips most people up: if you qualified for something, surely someone — a doctor, a case worker, a government letter — would have told you by now. In practice, that's usually not true. Nobody is checking on your behalf.
